Overview
Some conditions are best treated not by removing an organ but by rebuilding drainage. Chronic pancreatitis with a dilated, stone-filled pancreatic duct, long biliary strictures and obstruction from tumors that cannot be removed can all cause severe pain, jaundice or vomiting. Reconstructive and bypass operations restore the flow of bile, pancreatic juice or food and can greatly improve quality of life.
Conditions treated / যেসব রোগের চিকিৎসা
- দীর্ঘস্থায়ী অগ্ন্যাশয়ের প্রদাহ (Chronic Pancreatitis)
- প্যানক্রিয়াটিক পাথর (Pancreatic Stone)
- প্যানক্রিয়াটিক সিউডোসিস্ট (Pseudocyst)
- পিত্তনালীর স্ট্রিকচার (Biliary Stricture)
01
Surgical indication / কখন সার্জারি প্রয়োজন
- Painful chronic pancreatitis with a dilated duct and stones — lateral pancreaticojejunostomy
- Pancreatic pseudocyst needing internal drainage
- Benign biliary stricture or failed previous repair — hepaticojejunostomy
- Unresectable tumor blocking both bile duct and stomach outlet — triple bypass for symptom relief
02
The procedure / অপারেশন পদ্ধতি
In lateral pancreaticojejunostomy the pancreatic duct is opened along its length, stones are cleared and a loop of intestine is joined to it so pancreatic juice drains freely. Triple bypass joins the bile duct, stomach and intestine to bypass a blockage. Each operation is tailored to scans and findings at surgery.
03
After surgery / অপারেশন পরবর্তী যত্ন
- Hospital stay of about a week in most cases
- Pain control and diet plan, with enzyme supplements where needed
- Stop alcohol and smoking completely after surgery for pancreatitis
- Regular follow-up to monitor sugar levels and nutrition
Questions about Reconstructive Hepatobiliary & Bypass Surgery
Q. Does surgery help pain from chronic pancreatitis?
For selected patients with a dilated, stone-filled pancreatic duct, drainage surgery such as lateral pancreaticojejunostomy can provide significant and lasting pain relief.
